Pooja means the act of worship and at poojathedesigner we like to worship our planet earth and the people who create clothes for us.
We believe you should wear clothes that tell a real story!
When you shop from us, it represents the workers, the artisan who made the cloth from the very beginning to the end. We use traditional Weaving, Dying, techniques like Hand Embroidery, Mirror Work, Block Printing from rural areas in India that still practices these old techniques from over the years with the hope that these traditional technique stays alive.
Some of the pieces from our Desi Tadka collection are Block printed by the traditional technique of Block printing and Hand embroidered: Mirror work also known as Shisha and Abhala work by Kutch Tribal Women. Fabrics are Hand woven from Kala Cotton (Indigenous cotton of Kutch) and colored with natural dyes to produce beautiful colors.
We sourced fabrics that are Deadstock, leftover from other brands of their past collection by eliminating the need for producing new fabrics, which reduces energy and water consumption enabling us to create a positive environmental impact.
Due to the fabric being Deadstock, we can only create minimum pieces for you. Once the fabric is all used the items will be sold out forever.
The cuts of the fabric are guaranteed they won’t be thrown out instead they will be repurposed in some sort of way: patchwork into a new fabric, accessories or sent to be recycled.
Now you know why poojathedesigner because you are not just choosing a brand, but you are choosing a plant earth, the artisans and helping a community to keep their traditional techniques alive.
Love,
Pooja
